Mechanical Engineer

A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and engaging Mechanical Engineer to join the team at Tectonica, based in West Melbourne. The role reports directly to the Director of Engineering.

Tectonica operates in a highly regulated environment.  It follows a systems engineering methodology under contract to local and international customers.  The successful candidate will be a detail orientated, persistent person with the ability to understand and generate complex technical documents.  They will be able to generate 3D models of complex parts.  They will have a degree from an Australian University in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering and be able to think independently, exercise judgement and develop innovative solutions to new problems.

The role provides an opportunity to learn about all aspects of product development and the manufacture of sophisticated assemblies that meet demanding specifications so that they can operate reliably in harsh environments. This is a hands-on role in a closely integrated team that designs, develops and manufactures innovative electro-mechanical products.

As part of a small project team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers, the Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Document system and subsystem requirements using a formal systems engineering approach
  • Collaborate with team members to develop mechanical engineering solutions using the best available systems, processes and methodologies
  • Perform design validation and testing; identify and solve problems
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills along with maturity, energy, optimism, flexibility, resilience, persistence, and an ability to self-start, to solve problems and to act proactively

To apply for this position you need to have:

  • a degree in Mechanical Engineering with broad technical knowledge
  • strong proficiency in Solidworks, MS Office Suite, MatLab
  • strong mechanical design and design for manufacture skills
  • experience in hands-on prototyping and manufacturing technologies
  • experience in configuration management tools
  • strong written English communication skills
  • Australian citizenship
